Why are we going?
Our hope as a College is to develop our students in a corporate sense where they will recognise the needs of others and more importantly, respond to and serve those needs. Engaging our students in a program which aims to educate about the need in our global community, as well as providing with an opportunity to respond with practical service is an important part of our focus.
As a Christian College, it is our desire to demonstrate the practical outworking of our faith and model service to our students and College community. In the book of James, we are reminded that 'faith without works is dead' and that 'we should not love with just words or speech but with actions and in truth'. We aim to provide an education that prepares our students to become successful, contributing members and leaders of the community.
Crossroads Foundation
Crossroads Foundation is a Hong Kong based, non-profit organisation serving global need. They seek to provide a link between those who are in need with those who can provide help. They offer four global crossroad services:
Global Distribution: this distributes Hong Kong's excess goods as needed, internationally and locally.
Global Village: this offers simulated experiences of global need.
Global Handicrafts: this sells fair trade goods from people in poverty, providing them with a fair income.
Global Hand: this provides a matching website for public-private partnerships.
Our students and staff will be involved in an array of volunteer tasks at Crossroads. It is expected that we will also be packing a shipping container of goods that will be sent to one of the many international organisations that they support.
Please pray for our group as they travel, that we will be kept safe in our travels, that we will learn much about how we can provide practical support and service to those in need and that we will enjoy the history and cultural experiences of travel in a different part of the world.
